How firms are chosen and ranked
Every firm on this site comes from Google's results for its project type and metro area. No firm pays to be listed or ranked.
Where the firms come from
The site covers 12 project types across 41 US metro areas. For each project type and metro, we search Google for that kind of firm in that city, for example "kitchen remodeling chicago", and take the businesses from Google's organic results.
What is removed
Directories, chains and suppliers are removed, so each list holds only firms that do the work themselves. Each page then lists up to 10 of the firms that remain.
How the list is ordered
Firms are ordered by their Google rating, weighted by their number of Google reviews. A high rating from many reviews counts for more than the same rating from a handful, so one or two five-star reviews do not put a firm at the top.
Ratings are Google's
The star rating and review count on each listing are the firm's Google figures at the time the list was pulled. We do not collect reviews of our own and we do not adjust the figures.
No firm pays to be listed or ranked
No firm pays to appear on a list, to move up one, or to be featured. The order comes from Google's ratings and review counts.
How often the lists are updated
Each project type and city page shows the month its list was last updated. The current lists were last updated in October 2026.
What each listing shows
Each listing shows the firm's Google rating and review count where it has one, a short summary of its work, its phone number where we have it, and a link to its own website.
Prices
The price ranges on project type and city pages are our own estimates of what the work typically costs locally, adjusted for regional labor rates. They are guides, not quotes.
Corrections and suggestions
If a listing is wrong, a firm has closed, or a firm is missing, thesuggestions and corrections form reaches us directly, and every message is read by a person.
